Animal Partisan sues producer of bovine colostrum supplement ARMRA for deceptive advertising

Animal Partisan has filed a lawsuit against Rahal Biosciences, Inc. for misrepresenting the animal welfare practices and human health benefits associated with its colostrum supplement, ARMRA. The lawsuit, filed on September 11, 2026 in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, seeks to end ARMRA’s misleading and deceptive conduct, protect farmed animals used for these products, and allow consumers to make informed choices based on accurate information. Rahal Biosciences, headquartered in Florida, markets and sells bovine colostrum under the brand name ARMRA in Washington, D.C. and across the country using a vast array of claims aimed at influencing consumers. Bovine colostrum is the milk produced by mother cows in the first several days following birth and is critical for the immune protection and nutrition of vulnerable calves. The sale of bovine colostrum as a health supplement—an industry only loosely regulated by the Food and Drug Administration—is rapidly increasing both in the United States and globally.  One source estimates the U.S. colostrum industry generated $1.1 billion in revenue in 2025

ARMRA touts its animal welfare practices, claiming that the cows who provide its colostrum “roam freely” on “family-owned dairy farms” that abide by strict animal welfare requirements. ARMRA also claims that it takes only “surplus” colostrum from mother cows after the needs of the calves are satisfied. But ARMRA does not disclose the locations and practices of its partner dairy farms and provides no transparency into its animal welfare claims. In fact, the complaint alleges that ARMRA uses stock photos on its website while claiming those pictures depict actual cows at these farms. Moreover, ARMRA provides no substantiation to support its claims that the calves’ needs are met first before their colostrum is taken for sale. In fact, existing research indicates that excess colostrum is rare on dairy farms.  The images below depict an ARMRA advertisement (left) and stock images (right) of the same cow.

In addition to its animal welfare assertions, ARMRA claims that it provides a wide range of human health benefits, including supporting immunity, metabolism, gut health, skin, hair, and fitness. The company also advertises that its products are free from many substances, including casein, gluten, GMO’s, hormones, antibiotics, fat, oils, and glyphosate. But ARMRA provides no peer-reviewed human clinical trials to substantiate these claims and instead relies on consumer surveys and one cell culture study as support. Additionally, Animal Partisan has conducted multiple laboratory tests demonstrating that ARMRA contains an ingredient the company asserts is not present in its products. 

Across the United States, millions of calves are born each year into the dairy industry to be exploited to produce milk, cheese, and other products. Now, with the burgeoning and unchecked colostrum supplement industry, countless numbers of them are having essential nutrients stolen to fuel the latest superfood fad.
